David King

David King was the former pastor at First Baptist Church in downtown Minneapolis, where I was his Youth Pastor for 8 years. He was a wonderful pastor and leader. He made working there both fun and meaningful, always checking in with me to see how things were going, supporting the youth group in our many trips and activities, and kindly answering all of my deep theological questions. We had a fantastic team who worked and served together seamlessly; due to David’s strong leadership, deep faith and warm and personable personality. David married my husband and I (twice! Once the first time and once for our vow renewal), and he has been instrumental in pastoral care and funerals for his many congregations, although he is no longer serving as a full time pastor. He is semi-retired now and serving interim pulpits and teaching Sunday School at Westgate church. He and his wife Marie are like a mom and dad to me, and I am so grateful for our continued relationship and his years of wisdom and advice. And, to top it off, he plays a competitive game of Shanghai!

Jim Gooden

Pastor Jim, is the kindest pastor I have ever encountered. I was very hurt and almost destroyed by my past pastor at my old church and we left that church a couple years ago. We just started going to Reallife church in Jan of 2023, and we loved the church but I was very skittish of getting to know our new pastor. He took his time with me, not pushing us to join or get involved, just letting me heal in his church and taking our process slow getting involved. And then after about 6 months, he preached one Wednesday night on the letters to the churches in revelations and I just sobbed cause I was a member of the Luke warm church at I didn’t want to be anymore. We had a very real conversation and I told him what my old pastor said to be about things I was questioning in the church and how I was told to “get onboard or get out of the church.” Pastor Jim gave me a hug and said I will never tell you to get out of my church, he said I’m sorry your stuck with us forever! Kindest, nurturing pastor I have ever had! Staci

Mike Swecker

I would like to nominate Pastor Mike, in a nutshell, he is an all around great man! He helped my husband and I through a not so fun time in our marriage. Pastor Mike was so very transparent and vulnerable with what he shared with both my husband and I. He did not have to do what he did and yet he shared very personal events that took place in his own life to help us relate to what we were going through in our marriage. I am still in awe today at how truly compassionate Pastor Mike is for the people in our congregation. It recently came to my attention that Pastor Mike was diagnosed with cancer, I wanted to reach out to him, I made a phone call, left him a message. He called and left me a message back. Again, the man amazes me, the message he left me was to say thank you for reaching out, but then he went on asking me how I was, what was new in my life. He said we should stop by his office after church some day to catch up. He is such a selfless man, truly Pastor Mike is living the way Jesus wants us all to live. Pastor Mike doesn’t dwell on himself, he is always looking to reach out to the next person. He is a great example of reaching UP to our Lord, reaching IN and using his love/compassion for people to reach OUT to those around him. Thank you KTIS for making this gift possible to Pastors. Best Regards, Amy
