Take a look at what Phil Wickham says about his new song “The Jesus Way.”
“A few years back, I found myself in a tough situation asking God what it looked like for me to follow His way through it, and He responded by giving me a poem. I wrote down the words so fast I barely knew what I was writing, so I had to read it back. It said ‘If you curse me, I will bless you. If you hurt me, I’ll forgive. If you hate me, I will love you. I choose the Jesus way.’ As I read that poem back, tears flowed in my eyes because I realized how amazing this Jesus is that we follow. But I also realized how far from Him I was, and I was pleading with God, ‘Make me more like You. I want to follow Your way.’ And this poem became a prayer that I would pray often.
I never thought it was going to be a song until we were recording this record, and I felt like God was saying, ‘OK, it’s not for you anymore. It’s for whoever is going to pick up this record and listen to this song to also give them an anthem to say, ‘I choose the Jesus Way, even though it’s hard. I choose the Jesus way, even though it’s difficult to surrender sometimes and to go that narrow road.’’ And so, I wrote the rest of the song and I’m so, so proud of it. I’m so thankful for it. It has changed my heart and my life as I’ve carried it in in my life. And I pray that it does the same for others.”
