Like many young entrepreneurs in the summer, a young lady in Texas set up a lemonade stand in her front yard with a secret recipe! 11 yr old Mikaila Ulmer received an old cookbook from her great-grandma. Although the book was in tatters, the young girl found a 1940s recipe for flaxseed lemonade and decided to give it a go and added her own twist… a bit of honey instead of sugar! The inspiration for the name came after she was stung twice by bees who also liked the sweet drink. After doing some research into bees with her mom, Mikaila soon learned about their importance – and the implications if they were to become extinct.
So while promoting the protection of bees, Mikaila’s Me & the Bees Lemonade was born. Mikeala is now 17 and a few years ago turned her lemonade stand into an $11 million dollar deal with Whole Foods. Take some advice from Dr. Seuss! “You have brains in your head and feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you chose!” Keep chasing those dreams!
