“He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.”
– Proverbs 28:13
In a world of “cancel culture,” there are so many examples of something from someone’s past being dug up to hurt their future.
But in so many cases where people are “cancelled” for things in their past, it’s not the mistake, it’s the cover-up and denial that gets people in trouble. I’m sure you have rolled your eyes at the excuses you’ve heard from people when they are trying to deny something they clearly did.
If they just confess, most people will find it refreshing and will forgive.
It comes down to humility and pride. The proud never admit their mistakes, but the humble admit they aren’t perfect and need help.
And mercy.
And the beauty of mercy is, when it is given, it is much more likely to be received.
