“If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat. If he is thirsty, give him water to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you.”
– Proverbs 25:21-22
The Germans have words for everything. One of them that has no English equivalent is schadenfreude – meaning “the joy felt at others’ misfortune.” Which I believe is the main purpose of social media right now.
Now, I would be lying if I said I have experienced schadenfreude from time to time – but that’s not what God wants us to do. Our heart should break and stir us to action.
Because when we start trying to decide who “deserves” punishment we are putting ourselves in God’s place. And when we do that, God is quick to know us back down to earth.
