Do you know someone who feels hopelessly lost?
Kyle Idleman shares how we can help those who are at the end of their proverbial rope.
“They want to know that what they’re going through is not a first.”
While listening and asking questions is good, Kyle says it’s important connect them with others who share their story.
“I’ve learned to connect them with people who have experienced that level of tragedy in their lives and have come out on the other side of it, not without a lot of scars, but being able to testify to the blessing that can come.”
Matthew 5 says blessed are those who mourn for they will find happiness. How can that be?
“It makes sense if you’ve experienced that yourself where in the tears, a blessing can be found. I’m going through this and it’s horrible and as hopeless as it feels right now, here’s somebody else who’s going through that as well.”
Often times, when we are in the pit of despair we’re insulted when someone implies that there is blessing ahead. We feel like it invalidates the pain we feel. However, it’s helpful to remember everything God allows us to endure is for a purpose.
“We want to believe that this isn’t for nothing, that it isn’t going to be wasted, God has a purpose for it and if you can step into that and receive it then it is real.”
Sometimes, we have to realize that we can’t always help everyone, but God can.
Kyle tells the tragic story of his nephew drowning in a pond. When Kyle went to console his sister-in-law who lost her son, she kept saying, “I can’t fix this and I can always fix it.”
Through the loss of her son, she came to the end of her rope and discovered she isn’t in control like she thought.
“When I got the phone call I thought, ‘Good job God,’ you know we’ve been praying for her forever, now something like this happens. What we’ve seen since then is that for the first time, she is open to talking about something spiritual. What has happened is in that space, the walls have been broken down and she can’t live under the illusion that she’s in control anymore.”
Kyle’s sister-in-law had come to the end of herself and she is beginning to meet Jesus face to face for the first time. The tragic event in her life allowed her to experience the liberation of surrendering her life to Christ.
