Because of the arctic cold on January 17th Sophia Shabaz’ 6th Annual Hot Chocolate stand has been rescheduled and will be held SUNDAY JANUARY 24th from 4 – 7pm at Buck Hill and you’re invited! Details below.

Sophia is a 7th grader at Kenwood Trail Middle School has been hosting annual hot cocoa stands to raise donations for the kids of Swaziland, Africa for 6 years now.  She started when she was 8 years old and heard about the kids from a family friend who was about to move with her husband & kids to Swaziland to be missionaries. The money she raises go to an organization called Children’s Cup based out of Louisiana and their goal is to help the kids in the country by meeting their most basic needs.  They source food from a local company, Feed My Starving Children to give the kids one meal each day when they visit the care points in their community. They also provide preschool for the young kids and medical care as well.

Sophia recently went to Swaziland for the 2nd time in December 2015 and was able to share the experience with her younger brother Austin who’s in 5th grade at Orchard Lake elementary. This year she helped a team of 31 people from River Valley Church in Apple Valley host Christmas parties at all of the care points. The Christmas parties are an incredibly exciting time for the kids, they get to eat a hot meal of chicken, rice & beetroot, delicious sweets, go on water slides, inflatable jumpies and most importantly hear who God is through fun activities at the 9 different stations.  Sophia was one of the leaders at the lesson and dance station and was able to share with the multitude of kids, with the help of a translator, how much God loves them and wants them to know that He is the light of the world.

To date Sophia has raised over $9500.00 and this year would really like to pass the $10,000.00 mark and needs your help to do just that.  Buck Hill Ski Area in Burnsville has invited Sophia the last 2 years to host her stand on their snow tubing hill and in addition to that, they help support Sophia by giving back to Children’s Cup $2.00 from every tubing ticket sold during the event.

The hot cocoa is made from scratch, using milk & is FREE, Sophia only asks for people to make donations & 100% of the donations goes right to Children’s Cup.
