What does it mean to PUSH through your prayers? Pastor Jurgen Matthesius looks at how to Pray Until Something Happens.

In Jurgen’s book, PUSH, he outlines several important biblical principles about prayer:

• Prayer creates a vehicle that moves our mind, heart, soul and spirit into alignment with God’s heart.

•  Prayer is resisted. Jurgen explains using the parable of the persistent widow.

“It’s such a powerful picture because it’s one of those parables that is an inaccurate picture of God.. [Jesus] is trying to communicate the reality of the resistance that we experience in prayer. Jesus teaches us that we need to pray – we need to know what God’s will is, and then pray until it’s made manifest.”

• Our connection to God in prayer is not arrogant but reflected in Scripture. “God is Someone who interacts and engages.” When we look at His interactions with Moses and Abraham, we see that their intercession played a role in God’s judgments of Israel, and Sodom and Gomorrah.

• There are three key elements in the process of praying:

– The prayer’s belief about who God is.
– The prayer’s belief about who they are.
– The prayer’s belief about what we’ve been given.

Pastor Jurgen offers these thoughts:

“God is our heavenly Father and we need to trust. When we pray we know what God’s will is, but there’s still that higher dimension that God has always got the best thing for us. When we pray, we create legal grounds for heavenly activity. We create legal grounds for angelic authority and God’s authority to move. That’s why the enemy always creates discouragement!”
