Technology changes so fast, it’s easy to get overwhelmed.  Not only does technology change quickly, but as it gets newer, it seems to require more and more of your time.  It’s nice to carry your calendar or be able to send email from your phone, but sometimes it can feel like a bit too much when you’re connected to everyone and anyone at any moment of the day.

So how do we escape our technology and keep from getting burned out on information overload?  The site Lifehacker has a few suggestions:

1.  Make an effort to keep your phone in your pocket more often.  If you’re having a problem tearing yourself away from it when you pulled it out to “just check the time”, maybe it’s time to go old school and get a watch.

2.  Stop Multitasking.  This has been something I’ve struggled with; the more I attempt to multitask, the less productive I become, and the less focused I feel.  Sometimes, it’s good to just focus on one thing at a time.  Plus it makes attending your kids’ school activities more fun and relaxing.

3.  Get Organized.  Over the last year, I’ve made an effort to get organized and it’s helped me immensely.  If you find a way to properly sort and file all your information, it’s harder to feel overwhelmed by it.  There’s no need to panic about the fall football schedule that you can’t find; instead, you have a place for everything.  It may take work to get started (and it does!), but in the end, life can seem more manageable.

These are just a few ideas to make sure your technology and information is helping you, rather than owning you.
