It’s a trend that’s been around for a few years, but it’s becoming popular again, and you may need to have a talk with your kids about how dangerous it can be.
It’s a challenge that seems harmless, trying to ingest a teaspoon of cinnamon in 60 seconds without drinking water, but the results can be dangerous.
Dejah Reed did it, and started a website talking about the dangers of doing the Cinnamon Challenge:
I ended up laughing, coughing it out and inhaled it. It went into my right lung and caused it to collapse. I told my friend to call my dad for me since I couldn’t talk that well. I was rushed into the U of M hospital in Ann Arbor. I stayed for four days on my mid-winter break. It was a lesson learned and I realized how dangerous it is. Ever since this happened to me, I’ve been telling everyone the dangers that can come from this challenge. For those who haven’t done it yet, I beg you not to do it! There are still people that are doing it or wanting to do it. So, I’ve come this far to let the world know how dangerous it is. It could risk your health.
This, along with a lot of the fads that end up being dangerous usually start as a youtube video that you and your kids laugh at, then they get the idea that they should try it themselves.
What a great reminder that we must be so vigilant on what our kids are doing online, and not to be afraid to ask what they are looking at.
