Metropolitan Symphony Concert

2:00 PM - 5:00 PM

“A Dinosaur Extravaganza” is promised for two concerts by the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra on Sunday, Feb. 10, at the Church of Saint Matthew, located at 510 Hall Ave. on Saint Paul’s West Side. Annual appearances by the orchestra have drawn standing-room-only crowds for several years so the orchestra is planning two identical concerts that afternoon, beginning at 2 p.m. and again at 4 p.m. Dinosaurs rule in this one-hour family-friendly concert of the MSO and conductor William Schrickel. Admission is free and the concerts are popular in part because most of the music is familiar to the audience and young people are encouraged to talk with the musicians after each performance. John Williams’ music from the first Jurassic Park film will set the stage for Jake Endres’ narration of The Jogger and the Dinosaur, a charming tale by American composer Morton Gould making its MSO Twin Cities premiere. Leonard Bernstein’s fizzy Candide Overture will open the concert, and MSO musicians Larry Prescott and Marta Troicki will show off their expertise on the piccolo trumpet and the bassoon respectively. The concert is sponsored by BankCherokee.
