A dear friend of mine, Sam, gave birth to a precious little girl and called her Zoe. But when it became clear that all was not right with her daughter’s medial tests, Sam will be the first to admit to you the words from the doctor’s mouth were devastating as she lay there in her hospital room. But years later as Sam thinks back on the day that seemed so dark and scary, she now says if she could go back into that room where she lay, shaking with fear, she would tell herself this:

“Don’t be afraid. She will be a shining star. Different, but smart, beautiful, expressive, athletic, kind, funny and full of joy and light. She will be your greatest gift and will change your life in the best ways that you’d never choose, but would never want to miss.”
