My friend Reggie and I were talking about songs that really shaped our faith when we were growing up, and it didn’t take long for us to bring up what I think is the greatest song from one of Christian Music’s greatest artists.
I’m talking, of course, about Secret Ambition by Michael W. Smith. Can you believe it’s nearly 30 years old? But it still holds up—as long as you don’t mind 80s guitar riffs and synthesizers.
This song tells the story of Jesus, how His teaching was outside of the established thought of the day, how His love was plain to see, how He was on earth for something bigger.
Those three things spoke to me today. I needed to be reminded that Jesus’ teachings are often outside the established thought of the day, but they are the way to life. I needed to be reminded that my love for God and others should be plain to see, and that my time on earth is to point people to the life that will last eternally.
Enjoy this trip down memory lane with me.
