Cherishing your spouse
By: Connecting Faith
There is one word that can change everything in your marriage. One word can take you from a going through the motions relationship to a loving and fulfilling life together. That word is cherish.
Gary Thomas shares a few helpful tips on how to reverse negative patterns in your marriage by cherishing your spouse. He speaks to the value of staying true to your marriage vows.
“The first step is to recognize this is what I promised my spouse; I don’t want to just love her in the sense of being there and not leave. You promised to have a certain mind attitude and a certain heart toward your wife or husband – you want to cherish them.”
“Look at your husband as Adam; the only man in the world, or your wife as Eve; the only woman in the world.”
It’s important to have a mindset of cherishing your spouse on a daily basis, a mindset that goes far beyond your wedding day.
“Cultivate a mindset that focuses on your spouse’s excellence. It just gives you a whole new perspective and context out of which to adore and appreciate your spouse.”
Gary shares a personal example,
“One thing I did for my wife this past year is I took a daily journal that had each day numbered, and every day I wrote down one thing that she did that day that I was thankful for, or something about her that I really admired and felt blessed by. It shaped my mind and my heart.”
Show your spouse that they are cherished by remaining curious about the details of their life.
