Over the holidays, my older son (unintentionally) gave me a great gift–a fresh perspective on life. He came home for the holidays after being away at school.  We were all feeling crazed from being so busy during Christmas, and one day I was a bit out of sorts from the hustle and bustle.  I was complaining.  He said, “Dad, you have to take time to give thanks.  Be thankful during this time – no need to be complaining.”

Wow.  He caught me speaking negatively when I should be so grateful.  What a good word in season.  He made me think, and he was so right. I was bogged down in complaining, and I needed to leave that behind and give thanks for everything!  So I did!

He turned my whole day around!

So, for 2017, I don’t have any “self help” to offer you, or diets, or top 10 tips for a better life, but I do have some scriptures that I am reflecting on to make this the best new year ever. In my opinion, it starts with a right attitude and being reminded of His Word.  These are the scriptures that I am re-familiarizing myself with to begin a new year. Maybe reading them will ignite your faith and hope too. May these powerful affirmations of God’s amazing faithfulness in your life replace your doubts.

Psalm 9:1
I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.

Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Colossians 3: 16-17
Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
